Hello everyone my name is Olivia Dahan and I am so happy to be part of the Vanier First Aid Team this semester!
I am a health science student and strive on becoming a pediatric oncologist. I am aware that it is a job that will be demanding, but for me working with young people is building the future of tomorrow.
I am 18 years old and I have been passionate about skiing since the age of 4. The more challenging the slopes, the more thrilling it is. I also devote myself to kickboxing, it is the best way, in my opinion, to let off some steam!
I am someone who is curious, caring, fascinated by life's details. I love finding out how things work. I am also the big sister of twin siblings and that is a challenge in its own self.
I joined the Vanier First Aid Team (VFAT), as I am a devoted and caring person which likes to assist others in need. Being a first responder means having the tools and training to assist a person in need of medical assistance while medical professionals are being dispatched. View of our current reality, the next best thing is to transmit to others my first aid knowledge and raise awareness with regards to first aid and safety.

Some first aid facts I know, include:
-It takes 3 minutes for an obstructed airway to kill you!
-During a nosebleed pinch the nose and lean the head forwards not back.
-DSR ABCD plan (D-check for danger, S-send for help, R-check for response, A-check airways, B-check for breathing, C-give CPR, D-apply a defibrillator).
-If on fire: stop, drop, cover face and roll (also use a blanket to take out flames).
- 3 P's of first aid: preserve life, prevent deterioration, and promote recovery.
-The universal sign of choking is grabbing the throat with one or both hands.

I cannot wait to share more first aid tips with you all!
Hope you all enjoyed reading my blog and remember to ALWAYS STAY ALERT!
This is amazing and very informative. Thank you, Olivia!
