Neurological diseases: Alzheimer’s disease

`Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that destroys the person's ability to think and remember. Eventually, Alzheimer’s disease reduces the ability of the brain to carry out the simplest tasks.


Symptoms of the disease:

*Gradual memory loss

*Difficulties in learning new things, studying and reading

*Difficulties in organizing

*Difficulties in paying attention

*Inability to learn new languages and vocabularies

*Misplacing things to their place

*Anxiety and anger


Stages:

1- Experiencing some of the symptoms

2-Basic forgetting

3-Memory loss

4- Depending more on others for doing simple basic tasks

5-severe symptoms

6- Lack of physical control


Treatment:

* Medications called cholinesterase inhibitors are prescribed. These drugs may help reduce some symptoms and help control the patient's behavior

*The antibody donanemab, which targets and removes plaques from the brain. This used for people at the early stage of Alzheimer to slow cognitive decline.




Alzheimer's is an extremely difficult disease and its patients face a lot of challenges every day. The disease has no cure or a way to stop or slow its progression. However, there are certain medications that may help treat the symptoms.
